To search for a file, start typing in the Search edit box. As you type, the characters will appear at the top next to the word Search. To open a selected file, double click or highlight it (using arrow keys) and press enter.
Two search modes are provided. In the first search mode (match only from the start), searches are conducted only on the beginning of the file name. In the second search mode (match anywhere), the search string can match at any point in the file name. For example, if you had two files, ReadImage.cs and ReadText.cs, searching for "read" would return both files in either mode, whereas searching for Image would return neither when searching from the start, while ReadImage.cs would appear if searching for a match at any point.
This expert offers the following options:
- Prefer "View Code" if you want to always open the source code of a form, instead of the designer.
- Search Active project only if you want to display the files of the active project only, instead of the whole solution. This option is also available within the expert window.
- Search Open documents only if you want to quickly switch to one of your open files. This option is also available within the expert window.
- Filter project items allows you to define filters based on the file extensions you want to display (for instance only your source code files, and no image, icon or resource files)
- If the active document is part of the solution, then this expert will try to select it in its list, in order to remind you where you are presently.
- You can multi-select several files and open them in one shot.
- You can multi-select several files and perform a "Find in Files" search based on your selection.
- You can multi-select several files and perform a "Function list" search based on your selection.
